Apprenticeship in Fearlessness

Designers—new or seasoned—can make a difference in the world, which is why AIGA Colorado, a design advocacy group, sponsors Cause Related. The show features posters by young designers calling attention to social injustice.

Over the past three months, I volunteered with the AIGA Colorado Cause Related program and teamed up with a talented CU Denver student, Robbie Fikes, to help him craft his message and evolve his poster theme. It was energizing and exciting to see new designers be so passionate about their cause and their ideas. With small budgets and little time, the designers tackled their work with a vigor that was inspiring, and having the opportunity to mentor in this program fueled my own creativity.

The posters that the students designed, along with art by Milton Glaser and Lanny Sommese, will be on display at VSA Colorado in the Art District on Santa Fe beginning tonight, July 17, and running through August 2, 2015. The proceeds benefit VSA Colorado and the AIGA Colorado Education & Mentorship programs. All the art promotes social justice—and fearlessness.
